Patrick Poe and Lolo Loren, 2026 festival workshop presenters bringing you a workshop on lighting for film, are award-winning filmmakers and the co-founders of IX Film Productions. They host the movie trivia podcast First Timers Movie Club, and program and run the Bird Watching Film Festival. Together as IX Film Productions they’ve made 6 feature films, over 30 short films, and won “Best Filmmaker in Kansas City” in the Pitch Magazine in both 2023 and 2024.
Their latest feature film Almost Sorta Maybe, winner of “Best Local Film” at First City Film Festival and “Best Heartland Feature” at the KC Film Festival, is now available for streaming on demand. Their newest short film Vegan Apocalypse won “Best Kansas Film” at Tallgrass Film Festival in 2022 and has since been an official selection at over a dozen more, including in London and New York City.
Patrick Poe & Lolo Loren have managed lighting on feature films in a wide range of environments and situations and have worked in the lighting department on films that have received both streaming and international theatrical releases, as well as festival award-winning films.They work full time professionally behind the camera on everything from narrative features, to commercials, to music videos, to reality TV. PAULA MAKAR - Intimacy Coordination
Paula is incredibly excited to present the Intimacy Workshop for the BisonBison Festival! Paula is an Associate Member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers, and a member of Actor's Equity. Paula took her Intimacy Training with Theatrical Intimacy Education (TIE) online. The class was Best Practices, a six hour course, in January 2021, which outlined how to foster consent, gateways for safe contact, and intimacy choreography basics. Paula used this training at Wichita State to teach the basics of intimacy to her directing classes, acting students, and to her cohort of acting and stage combat teachers. Paula also does her own intimacy direction in any shows she directs.
Paula earned her Master’s Degree in Theatre from Oklahoma State University, where she directed These Shining Lives and a new work, Trigger. Paula received her BFA in Theatre Performance from Wichita State, where she also served as an Adjunct Lecturer and Online Instructor. There she taught Directing, Acting, and directed Love’s Labors Lost.
Most recently, Paula directed Taming The West and SpongeBob: The Musical for the Depot Theatre in Dodge City, KS, two classic Melodramas Sweeney! The Demon Barber of Cripple Creek, and The Vampire of Cripple Creek, for Green Glass Productions at the Butte Theatre in Cripple Creek, CO, and Witness For The Prosecution for ICT Rep in Wichita, KS.
Paula was an Associate Professor of Theatre at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, KS, where she directed You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Silent Sky, The Odd Couple Female Version, and She Kills Monsters. For Wichita Collegiate School, Paula directed Spamalot and Leaving Idaho. As an Adjunct Professor at Southwestern College, Paula directed The Liar. At Newman University, she directed The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. She directed High School Musical and Annie for MTYP, and two original shows written by her Performing Arts students at Upward Bound Wichita Prep at Wichita State. Paula also directed Othello for Wichita Shakespeare Company, and Frost/Nixon for Wichita Community Theatre. In Colorado, Paula had the opportunity to direct 9 to 5 at Aspen Community Theatre, and My Partner, a Melodrama at the Butte Theatre in Cripple Creek. She is also a Contributing Editor for BroadwayWorld.com!
A native of Buffalo, New York, she now calls Wichita, Kansas home. In Buffalo, Paula was a member of the Buffalo Ensemble Theatre and Theatre of Youth. In Michigan, Paula was an Adjunct Instructor of Drama at Olivet College, and also ran the Youth Theatre Programs at the Marshall Civic and Marshall Middle School, where she directed and choreographed many productions.
