"Lighting for Film"

Patrick Poe and Lolo Loren, 2026 festival workshop presenters bringing you a workshop on lighting for film, are award-winning filmmakers and the co-founders of IX Film Productions. They host the movie trivia podcast First Timers Movie Club, and program and run the Bird Watching Film Festival. Together as IX Film Productions they’ve made 6 feature films, over 30 short films, and won “Best Filmmaker in Kansas City” in the Pitch Magazine in both 2023 and 2024.

Their newest feature film Almost Sorta Maybe, winner of “Best Local Film” at First City Film Festival and “Best Heartland Feature” at the KC Film Festival, is now available for streaming on demand. Their newest short film Vegan Apocalypse won “Best Kansas Film” at Tallgrass Film Festival in 2022 and has since been an official selection at over a dozen more, including in London and New York City.

 

Patrick Poe & Lolo Loren have managed lighting on feature films in a wide range of environments and situations and have worked in the lighting department on films that have received both streaming and international theatrical releases, as well as festival award-winning films.They work full time professionally behind the camera on everything from narrative features, to commercials, to music videos, to reality TV. "Imaginary Worlds: Producing Animation" with Shelby Hagerdon

Shelby Hagerdon is a Creative Producer and Writer at Made By Things, an animation and motion design studio, as well as an independent filmmaker and screenwriter. She has produced five features, all of which have won awards in directing, writing, and production. She will be going into production on her sixth feature shortly. Her scripts have placed in several competitions, including the Austin Film Festival and Screencraft.

 

Her background in abstract, surrealist writing and detailed production design in a live action world has made her a unique asset within animation, adding a fresh voice to both animated filmmaking and marketing. In addition to producing, Hagerdon has directed or co-directed three features and several shorts along with making countless commercials and videos for some of the world's most influential brands.

Hagerdon holds an MFA in Writing for Film and Television from Emerson College, one of the top American film schools. She has spoken at many film festivals and events throughout the central United States, recently completing a series on indie feature filmmaking with the Iowa Motion Picture Association. When she's not making films or writing them, she can typically be found reading, drawing, or researching for her next big project.
